Catawba Falls is a stunning series of multi-tiered cascades in the Pisgah National Forest totaling about 350 feet tall. The trail traverses a mossy and shady forested valley passing several stone foundation ruins and the remnants of a dam constructed to create hydropower to the Town of Old Fort. Roundtrip, this hike is a little less than 3 miles. The trail recently reopened with improvements made over the last few years to include an incline that is 580 stairs, rising 465 feet over approximately a mile and a half along the pristine headwaters of the Catawba River. If time allows, the group will stop in Old Fort, during the return trip, at Hillman Brewing for a post-hike beverage or snack.
